Scotland's Chequered Throne Collection- an art photography journey through Scottish history

The Succession of the Scottish throne was chequered with highs, lows, triumphs, battles and bloodshed. From the Golden Age of Scotland with the defining of the Scottish-English Border through the Wars of Independence and the rise of the Royal Stewarts, to the Union of the Crowns, each Monarch has their unique story.

Scotland’s Chequered Throne collection was designed to tell these fascinating stories in a fun, modern, and surreal way. It explores the succession of fifteen Scottish Monarchs, presenting a story that is pivotal to Scotland’s history.

Each Monarch has their own chequered story to tell about how they contributed to the course of Scottish history through the games they played. Some played the hand they were given well, whereas others did not.  

The images were created using innovative still-life levitation techniques. Each object was cleverly selected and meticulously placed to tell intricate stories pivotal to the succession of Scotland. The images are accompanied by the stories from history that inspired them.
